·Mazda Builds Roadster Number 700,000.

The 700,000th Mazda Roadster (MX-5) rolled off the manufacturing line 14 years and 11 months after production began in April 1989. This earned the Roadster a world record as the sports car with the highest number of units produced in its class. The 700,000th model was a North American specification Mazdaspeed MX-5 with a 1,800cc engine, a turbocharger and Velocity Red Mica body paint.

The first three new-generation products, the Atenza (Mazda6), Demio (Mazda2) and RX-8 had been successfully imbued with Mazda's Zoom-Zoom DNA. Mazda then set about integrating the virtues of these models into the fourth product, the Mazda Axela (Mazda3). To ensure the new model would be globally competitive, Mazda focused on driving performance, design, quality, packaging and safety. In particular, Mazda aimed to set a new standard for driving performance that would provide peace of mind at the same time as sporty driving. Bold and unique styling, as well as superior quality were also targeted by the development team to further enhance the overall ownership experience.

The mid-size Mazda Atenza (Mazda6) was the first of Mazda's next-generation products that were launched from 2002 onward. In order to ensure it fully reflected Mazda's brand DNA, the development process prioritized driving dynamics, which was a new approach for Mazda. The result, from platform to engine, was a completely new and exciting vehicle.

The first two models available through the Web Tune Factory were the Roadster (MX-5) and Familia S-Wagon (Protegé5/Astina NU).
