Mazda’s History of World Car of the Year Awards
World Car of the Year
Arguably the world’s most prestigious automotive awards program, World Car of the Year is administered by World Car Awards, a non-profit organization that has no affiliation with any publication, auto show, automaker, or other commercial enterprise. The awards were established in 2004 and since 2006 winners have been announced at an award ceremony held each year at the New York International Auto Show.
World Car of the Year is widely recognized as a leading global awards program that complements rather than competes with existing national and regional Car of the Year programs.
The World Car of the Year(WCA) was established in 2004 by an international group of automotive journalists, and the judging panel this year consisted of 86 journalists from over 25 different countries. The final result was announced by the WCA in Toronto on April 8 local time.
In addition to the main World Car of the Year award, winners are named in each of the following categories: World Luxury Car, World Urban Car, World Performance Car and World Car Design of the Year.
